
In 2007, New York applied to the Army Corps of Engineers for seven artificial reef permits: six existing, with two greatly expanded, and one new, as shown above. In addition, there are several older reef sites that are no longer being added to, but remain nonetheless.
Notes:
- Fishing Line Reef is not drawn to scale above - it is too small to plot properly
- Atlantic Beach, Kismet, Matinecock Point, and Smithtown Bay reefs are inactive
- Proposed expanded boundaries for Moriches & Shinnecock reefs shown
- 12-Mile Reef is proposed as of 2007, but not yet approved
- Fishing traps are banned by state law on all New York artificial reefs
